該劇翻拍同名BBC英劇，講照顧12歲侄子，為守護(hù)侄子無業(yè)游民叔孤軍奮成長(zhǎng)故事
時(shí)間是1979年，美國(guó)俄亥俄州一個(gè)凡小鎮(zhèn)。少喬·蘭布（爾·科特尼 Joel Courtney 飾）痛失母親，生死痛讓他久久沉默。數(shù)月，他應(yīng)好朋查爾斯（雷·格里芬斯 Riley Griffiths 飾）的邀請(qǐng)，決約上幾個(gè)朋一起用超8攝像機(jī)（8 mm）拍攝一部恐怖電影。然令他下定心的，是那令她心儀的麗女孩愛麗（艾麗·范 Elle Fanning 飾）也參與其中。在個(gè)夜晚，愛絲駕駛父親汽車載著伙們來到火車拍戲，誰知目睹了一場(chǎng)其慘烈的火事故。 這起事故還只是系列不尋常件的開始，鎮(zhèn)上的人們繼離奇失蹤各種奇怪的件也接連發(fā)。少年們的像機(jī)記錄關(guān)這一切的秘…?

第2季與第1季聯(lián)系緊密，兩者時(shí)間節(jié)相隔差不多一年。2季開場(chǎng)發(fā)生在一年后的萬圣孰湖，地點(diǎn)然是印第安納州的鎮(zhèn)霍金斯，這幾個(gè)家伙打扮成抓鬼敢隊(duì)。四個(gè)萌童中最目的肯定是威爾，一季結(jié)尾時(shí)他咳嗽吐出了一條蟲子，顯然是為后續(xù)劇情下的伏筆。制作人一的馬特·杜菲表：“他似乎能夠看表里世界(the Upside Down)的景象，問題在于這些景象到底真的還是假的？看來他正遭受著PTSD?！?
同時(shí)，過度擔(dān)乃至有點(diǎn)神經(jīng)質(zhì)的伊斯(薇諾娜·瑞德飾)則試圖讓兩個(gè)兒子的生活穩(wěn)定下來她開始和前高中同鮑勃(肖恩·奧斯汀飾)約會(huì)：“她試圖遮掩很多東西，我為她決定和鮑勃在起，是想為孩子們生活中帶來一個(gè)好親?！?
霍珀警長(zhǎng)(大衛(wèi)·哈伯飾)則有一屁股的麻煩要處理，一季中他要設(shè)法平事態(tài)，保護(hù)喬伊斯孩子們。哈伯表示“所以霍珀的責(zé)任是以官方的身份出解釋，到底什么事發(fā)生了，什么事情有發(fā)生。他不得不出妥協(xié)，撒一些謊遮掩一些事情，這他很掙扎?！?
南希(娜塔莉亞·戴爾飾)和麥克這對(duì)姐弟的心也有很大變化，兩各自在上一季失去一位好友(巴伯和小十一)，也為此黯然神傷。制作人羅?杜菲表示：“她和克是最傷心的人，為他們都失去了朋。他們都需要努力出來，我們會(huì)在第2季中看到結(jié)果?！?
第2季最大的變化來自新來的一對(duì)姐弟比和麥克斯。麥克斯個(gè)假小子迅速和幾男孩成為了玩伴，且還成為了達(dá)斯汀盧卡斯的夢(mèng)中情人比利則是個(gè)不太好處的家伙。馬特·菲暗示道：“史蒂·金非常善于刻畫些人類反派。真實(shí)會(huì)中的惡魔絲毫不于那些超自然惡魔我們希望引入這樣個(gè)角色?！?
之前外媒曾曝光過兩個(gè)新角色概述，與杜菲的描正好吻合。之前的色概述中來看，麥斯是一個(gè)頑強(qiáng)自信13歲假小子，無論外表、行為還是愛都更像一個(gè)男孩，不是女孩。她有一復(fù)雜的身世背景，自己的繼兄關(guān)系不，這也使得她更謹(jǐn)保護(hù)自己的過去，往往對(duì)周圍的人持疑態(tài)度。她是一位板好手，喜歡滑著板走遍各地；比利一個(gè)肌肉發(fā)達(dá)的17歲青年。他毛躁好，魅力超群，甚至傳聞稱他曾在過去讀的學(xué)校里犯下兇。比利喜歡撬走別的女友，往往能在酒中勝出，還開著輛帥氣的黑色雪佛科邁羅。不過他周的人，特別是那些他年輕的人往往會(huì)察到他的暴力傾向變化無常、不可預(yù)的本質(zhì)。
